Traffic Offense Lawyers in Harrisburg
Experienced Representation to Protect your Pennsylvania License
Your ability to drive is a privilege, not a right. That privilege is governed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The Law Offices of Patrick F. Lauer, Jr. works hard to protect your rights regarding all traffic tickets and criminal violations of the Pennsylvania Traffic Code.
- If you were issued a traffic ticket, contact us before paying the fine. The points against your license could result in the suspension of your driving privileges and/or higher insurance rates, but we may be able to get the citation dismissed or reduced.
- If you were arrested or cited for a misdemeanor traffic crime, you may face a lengthy license suspension and possibly jail time. Our experienced lawyers can help you avoid a conviction or soften the penalties.

Are Traffic Offenses Criminal?
A traffic violation is a misdemeanor crime, meaning that you can be sentenced to jail time and it will appear on a criminal background check. Our attorneys are experienced at challenging the basis for the traffic stop and other evidence to avoid a conviction and all its consequences. We can also try to get violations reduced to a traffic citation.
A traffic ticket is not a crime, but you may still need a lawyer. It is either a citation that can resolved by mailing in a check or a summons to appear in court on a certain date.
Pennsylvania's Points System
Each traffic offense carries a point value. PennDOT starts to take action on your driving privileges after six points are accumulated. If your traffic ticket or violation would result in suspension, we will fight to have it dismissed or reduced.
Should I Hire a Traffic Violation Attorney?
Stiffer penalties apply for drivers with a commercial driver's license (CDL) cited while operating a truck or commercial vehicle, or holders of these licenses: Chauffeur License, Minor Restricted License, Recreational, Farmer & H-Hazardous Materials. Depending on the offense and prior convictions, these licenses could be suspended permanently.
Even if you are not a commercial driver, the consequences of traffic ticket or traffic violation convictions can be devastating. In a free case evaluation, we can tell you whether you need an attorney and, if so, what we can do to help. Our attorneys have 23 years of experience in criminal defense and traffic ticket representation.
